The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists says they had been told that Iraqi officials had ordered the expulsion of journalists who couldn't provide correct visa and media credentials.
The committee said freelance photojournalist Molly Bingham was reportedly expelled. Her father, Barry Bingham Jr., said he last heard from his daughter in a brief e-mail received Saturday. She arrived in Baghdad on March 17 and was staying at the Palestine Hotel. She has not been heard from since the beginning of the week. The committee did not have any information on Bingham's assignments or what organizations she was working for.
Molly Bingham initially did not have an Iraqi visa. She planned to enter the country by obtaining a visa in Iran that would permit her to cross the rival nations' shared northeastern border. Her mother Edie says the Iraqi Ministry of Information confiscated her satellite phone when her daughter arrived in Baghdad.
